Privacy policy
Effective 11 August 2026
Sam Somerville is responsible for personal information used to provide independent English tutoring. Privacy questions can be sent to hello@samsomerville.co.uk.
Information collected
This may include customer or guardian contact details, the student’s name and school stage, learning requirements, bookings and attendance, work shared for feedback, and payment status or transaction references. Full card details are not collected by Sam.
How information is used
Information is used to respond to enquiries, arrange and provide lessons, communicate about bookings, keep appropriate business and tax records, process cancellations or refunds, and protect the proper operation of the service. The usual legal bases are performance of a contract, legitimate interests and compliance with legal obligations.
Children’s information
A parent or guardian should make bookings for students under 18 and provide only information reasonably necessary for tuition. A child is not knowingly invited to submit payment information directly.
Service providers
TidyCal is used for scheduling, Stripe for payments and Google Meet for online lessons. These providers receive the information needed to deliver their services and handle it under their own privacy notices.
Storage, retention and rights
Reasonable measures are used to protect information. Records are retained only as long as needed for tuition, disputes and legal or tax obligations. UK data protection law may provide rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to use of information and to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
